RE: why can't back up with a toad

There are two opinions here. One opinion is from folks that can understand what is involved in backing up and take those things under consideration when they back. The other group are the ones that won't cut the tag off of a pillow because the tag instructions says "do not remove" (-:

RE: why can't back up with a toad

You CAN back up If you have someone hold the toad steering wheel. Slow and fairly straight. The only major reason for not backing up is the steering geometry of the toad will cause the steering to go to full turn lock. If the wheel is held it can and is done safely.
It is one of those general statements that cover everyones backside.

RE: creating a 12v-110v system - lotsa questions

Too many questions without much information. What are you trying to do? What do you expect to use the 12v and 120v power for?

RE: Removing Decals

Go to a auto parts store and ask for a decal eraser. It is a wheel made out of eraser type material that you put in a drill. Not easy but by far the easiest way. Were it me I would remove the old decal and have the dealer install the new one. Let them assume the possibility of screwing it up.

RE: Bulb Replacement

I just took a look at the link pkunk posted. The interior fixtures in my GS take one or two 12v bulbs and would need their "side firing" 30 LED bulb as a replacement. That would be $60.00 per two light fixture!! I have a total of 20 12v bulbs in my interior lighting. $600.00 for light bulbs. Where is the saving with that??

RE: Electric Awning Questions??

FWIW the Carefree Eclipse electric arms can be adjusted for angle just like the manual arms.

RE: Electric Awning Questions??

I retrofitted my manual Carefree awning with the Eclipse electric arms. Bought them through our local RV shop. I think it was $1050.00 plus freight and sales tax. Same price PPL wanted.

RE: bikes

One thing to remember is a electric bike or electric scooter can be pretty heavy so you don't just grab it and pick it up easily. I have a Extreme X-500 48v scooter and it is HEAVY.

RE: Opinions please........

I think they gave you a reasonable response. You have to decide whether the difference in price is reasonable. It sounds like it might be especially if you are not a do-it-yourself person that can fix what you find wrong. They did offer a lowering of the price just not a match.

RE: Bulb Replacement

Have you calculated how many minutes of generator run time you would reduce with the change? I personally don't like LED lighting. You might try one first and see if you like the light from them.

RE: Wireless connectivity problems

I have a handful of USB WIFI adapters I have tried over the years and until recently my Hawking HWU54D was the best I had seen. I saw a post about the Alfa AWUS036H that sounded promising as it had a screw in antenna that could be removed and a remote mounted antenna added. I bought one from data-alliance.com along with a 20' extension cable and their 9" magnet based antenna. With that antenna on a pole about 8' above the roof of my GS I had a good connection to a hotspot over 1/4 mile away recently.

RE: Rubber Roof Maintenance

My research found the companies that make the rubber roof material say clean it with a non-petroleum based cleaner such as mixture of Spic and Span and Murphy Oil Soap and don't put any coating on it. That is what I do.

RE: How Good Is This Antenna?

The Winegard Batwing with booster is known to be the best OTA antenna available. It is aimable. That is not. You get what you pay for.

RE: To tow or not To Tow; That is the question?

Rob,
You don't have to spend that kind of money to set up towing your Yota. Take a look at Readybrake.com. I built my tow bar for my Samurai and use their Ready Brake brake system. It works great. You can use their bar-brake combination and you will be very happy. Or buy a inexpensive bar from JC Whitney.
If you have front leaf springs you can make new front spring shackles that are sort of triangle shaped out of 1/4" steel and add a third 5/8" hole in the front between the top and bottom bolt holes for the spring and connect the bar there and pull from there. I have towed my Samurai over 30,000 miles with that setup.
The convenience of having a vehicle to use all the time will allow you to enjoy your RV travels a lot more. Having to get the MH road ready and resetup every time you want to go see something or go to the store is a PITA.

RE: Electric Awning Questions??

My Carefree Eclipse electric has lift struts as part of the support linkage like on a van tailgate that can compress when rain gets on the canvas. A strong wind catching the canvas will also compress those struts. I stake both ends with a small rope if the wind is blowing.

RE: generator

The generator electronic controller must see AC voltage being produced. If it doesn't see AC voltage it will shut off when the starter is released. My Honda EV4010 was the same way. My voltage regulator failed and it acted just like you describe.

RE: Cummins 8.3T intake restriction

1250 degrees pre-turbo EGT is considered the maximum safe EGT for extended periods. If it is less than that on a long hard pull you are not getting all the power your engine can safely make.

RE: Antena booster disconnected by sat installer

On the booster the three coax are in from antenna-in from outside cable connection and out to TV. If you have two TV's there will be a splitter in the out to TV coax. If you look at the circuit board for the booster the connections are identified.
